July 13, 2021 (Children’s Health Defense) – Data released today by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) included 9,049 reports of deaths, across all age groups, following COVID vaccines — an increase of more than 2,000 compared with the previous week. The data comes directly from reports submitted to the Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS).

VAERS is the primary government-funded system for reporting adverse vaccine reactions in the U.S. Reports submitted to VAERS require further investigation before a causal relationship can be confirmed.

Every Friday, VAERS makes public all vaccine injury reports received as of a specified date, usually about a week prior to the release date.

Data released today show that between Dec. 14, 2020 and July 2, 2021, a total of 438,441 total adverse events were reported to VAERS, including 9,048 deaths — an increase of 2,063 over the previous week. There were 41,015 serious injuries reported during the same time period — up 6,950 compared with last week.

In the U.S, 328.9 million COVID vaccine doses had been administered as of July 2. This includes: 134 million doses of Moderna’s vaccine, 182 million doses of Pfizer and 13 million doses of the Johnson & Johnson (J&J) COVID vaccine. SUBSCRIBE to LifeSite’s daily headlines U.S. Canada World Catholic

Of the 9,048 deaths reported as of July 2, 22% occurred within 48 hours of vaccination, 15% occurred within 24 hours and 37% occurred in people who became ill within 48 hours of being vaccinated.

Pfizer says boosters needed, U.S. federal health agencies, scientists disagree

As The Defender reported today, U.S. federal health agencies and the maker of one of the most popular COVID vaccines are publicly at odds over if or when fully vaccinated people will need a third “booster” dose.

Pfizer announced Thursday it will seek Emergency Use Authorization from the FDA in August for a third dose of its COVID vaccine. The drugmaker predicted those who have been fully vaccinated will need a booster shot within six to 12 months of receiving their second dose of the Pfizer vaccine.

But the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) hours later issued a joint statement by the FDA and Centers for Disease and Control and Prevention (CDC) saying, “Americans who have been fully vaccinated do not need a booster shot at this time.”

The HHS statement did not explicitly mention Pfizer, but said “a science-based, rigorous process” headed by the CDC, FDA and the National Institutes of Health would determine when or whether boosters were necessary.

Pfizer’s assertions about the need for boosters contradict other research, and several experts pushed back against the claim.

“There’s really no indication for a third booster or a third dose of an mRNA vaccine, given the variants that we have circulating at this time,” Dr. Céline Gounder, an infectious disease specialist at Bellevue Hospital Center in New York, told the New York Times. “In fact, many of us question whether you will ever need boosters.”

John P. Moore, professor of microbiology and immunology at Weill Cornell Medicine, told the Washington Post:

“No one is saying we’ll never need a booster, but to say we need it now and give the public the impression the vaccines are failing and something needs to be done as a matter of urgency. … The time isn’t now. The decisions that are going to be made will be made by federal agencies.”

Pfizer and BioNTech are developing a version of their COVID vaccine that targets the Delta variantThe New York Times reported this week. The companies expect to begin clinical trials of the vaccine in August.

Pfizer and BioNTech reported — based on their own studies that have not been published, nor peer-reviewed, according to the Times — that a booster given six months after the second dose of vaccine increased the potency of antibodies against the original virus and the Beta variant by five- to tenfold.

Vaccine efficacy may decline six months after immunization, the companies said in a news release, and booster doses may be needed to fend off virus variants. The vaccine makers said they will submit their findings to the FDA in the coming weeks, a step toward gaining authorization for booster shots.

17-year-old student required to get vaccinated suffers heart condition

Concerns around COVID vaccines and heart inflammation, especially in young males, continue to circulate. But according to an update posted today on the CDC website, the agency’s researchers have concluded the benefits of the vaccine outweigh the risks of myocarditis after vaccination.

European drug regulators today announced they also have found a “possible link” between a “very rare heart inflammation” and the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines, but sided with U.S. regulators, saying they also believe the benefits of the shots outweighed any risks.

Meanwhile, The Defender continues to report on teens who have experienced heart issues after taking the vaccines — including a 17-year-old student who developed symptoms of a heart condition about one week after his first dose of Pfizer’s COVID and subsequently was diagnosed with a heart condition.

The teen’s father, Fabio Berlingieri, told “Fox & Friends” his son had COVID and recovered, but was required to get the vaccine in order to play soccer.

Fox News medical contributor Dr. Nicole Saphier, who appeared in the interview with Berlingieri, said the way the New York Times and the CDC are presenting the data regarding the adverse effects of vaccines in adolescents is “irresponsible.”

“They cherry-pick the way they present the data. It’s an all or none approach. They say either adolescents are fully vaccinated or every single one of them is going to get COVID-19. That’s the way they are balancing it right now,” Saphier said.

Saphier said more weight should be given to potential adverse effects, like myocarditis and other heart inflammation issues, when deciding who should be vaccinated. She also encouraged the FDA to look closer at vaccines before recommending a universal policy.

Hundreds injured by COVID vaccines turn to GoFundMe for help

As reports of adverse events to COVID vaccines continue to grow in number, those injured by the vaccines are struggling to pay their medical bills.

As The Defender reported July 8, more than 180 people injured by COVID vaccines have had to turn to GoFundMe for help with large medical bills and other expenses, including Emma Burkey — the high school senior who underwent three brain surgeries due to blood clots after receiving J&J’s COVID vaccine. — Article continues below Petition — PETITION: No to mandatory vaccination for the coronavirus

People facing huge medical bills after being injured by COVID vaccines have few options, beyond what their own health insurance covers. That’s because under federal law, vaccine makers are shielded from liability.

Those injured by COVID vaccines can only file a claim for compensation through the Countermeasures Injury Compensation Program (CICP), run by HHS.

Since June 1, the CICP reported 869 pending cases but offered no further information. Since the program’s inception in 2010, only 29 claims have been paid, with an average payout of around $200,000. The other 452 claims (91.4%) were denied. Ten claims won approval but were deemed ineligible for compensation.

Biden plans to deploy federal teams in door-to-door COVID vaccine campaign

Making no mention of any safety concerns related to the vaccines, President Joe Biden this week announced plans to ramp up the federal government’s efforts to get more Americans vaccinated under a new “door-to-door” program.

As The Defender reported this week, under Biden’s program, the White House will deploy teams of officials from the CDC, Federal Emergency Management Administration and other federal health agencies. Biden suggested the unique door-knocking approach was needed now that “we are continuing to wind down the mass vaccination sites that did so much in the spring.”

Biden said the administration will also “step up efforts to get vaccines to doctors who serve younger people so that adolescents ages 12 to 18 can get vaccinated and — as they go for back-to-school check-ups or getting ready for their physicals they need for fall sports.”

Biden cited concerns over the COVID Delta variant, which he said is more transmissible and has forced some European countries to return to lockdowns. He did not mention any of the safety concerns previously noted by the CDC and FDA, including blood clots and heart inflammation, associated with the vaccines.

Number of cases among fully vaccinated continue to climb

Reports of COVID breakthrough cases among fully vaccinated people continue to rise, as The Defender reported earlier this week. As of June 28, the CDC reported 4,686 breakthrough cases resulting in death and hospitalization.

Nearly 30 people in Louisiana who were fully vaccinated against COVID died from the virus, according to the Louisiana Department of Health (LDH). Dr. Joseph Kanter, LDH state health officer and medical director, said 27 people between the ages of 28 and 93 have died with COVID more than two weeks after being fully vaccinated.

According to the San Francisco Examiner, more than 7,550 breakthrough cases have been reported, through June 23, in Californians who were fully vaccinated. Most cases were minor, but 62 people died from COVID, according to the California Department of Public Health.

California’s public health agency reported 584 fully vaccinated people had been hospitalized with COVID infection, but hospitalization status wasn’t available for 46% of post-vaccination cases. On July 7, state health officials reported 2,013 new infections among all Californians, including 24 deaths.

According to a report by the Tennessee Department of Health (TDH), breakthrough cases have resulted in 140 hospitalizations and 20 deaths in the state. As of May 1, TDH has not counted all breakthrough cases as the CDC “asked that only severe outcomes (hospitalization or death) be reported.”

123 days and counting, CDC ignores The Defender’s inquiries

According to the CDC website, “the CDC follows up on any report of death to request additional information and learn more about what occurred and to determine whether the death was a result of the vaccine or unrelated.”

On March 8, The Defender contacted the CDC with a written list of questions about reported deaths and injuries related to COVID vaccines. After repeated attempts, by phone and email, to obtain a response to our questions, a health communications specialist from the CDC’s Vaccine Task Force contacted us on March 29 — three weeks after our initial inquiry.

The individual received our request for information from VAERS, but said she had never received our list of questions, even though employees we talked to several times said CDC press officers were working through the questions and confirmed the representative had received them. We provided the list of questions again along with a new deadline, but never received a response.

On May 19, a CDC employee said our questions had been reviewed and our inquiry was pending in their system, but would not provide us with a copy of the response. We were told we would be contacted by phone or email with the response.

We have contacted the CDC numerous times since and were told nobody knew the specialist from the agency’s Vaccine Task Force who contacted us in March, and our request was still pending in the system. It has been 123 days since we sent our first email inquiring into VAERS data and reports and we have yet to receive a response.

Children’s Health Defense asks anyone who has experienced an adverse reaction, to any vaccine, to file a report following these three steps.

The Economic Collapse

This Is The Worst Inflation Since The 1970s, And The Stage Is Being Set For The Total Collapse Of The U.S. Economy

This Is The Worst Inflation Since The 1970s, And The Stage Is Being Set For The Total Collapse Of The U.S. Economy Posted: 13 Jul 2021 05:22 PM PDT How does it feel to live in a country with double-digit inflation?  On Tuesday, the Bureau of Labor Statistics told us that the consumer price index has risen 5.4 percent over the past 12 months, and such a high number shocked a lot of people.  But in order to make a fair comparison to the past, we have to account for the fact that the way inflation is calculated has been changed literally dozens of times over the past several decades.  According to John Williams of shadowstats.com, if inflation was still calculated the way that it was back in 1990, the official rate of inflation over the past 12 months would be about 9 percent.  And if inflation was still calculated the way that it was back in 1980, the official rate of inflation over the past 12 months would be well into double-digits. Everyone that has been warning that we could soon see inflation rise to levels that we haven’t witnessed since the the Jimmy Carter years can stop, because we are already there. The Bureau of Labor Statistics is committing fraud, because the numbers that they give us are almost meaningless.  For example, U.S. home prices have risen 20 percent over the past year, but the “shelter component of inflation” makes up only a tiny fraction of the overall consumer price index… We’ll get the latest read on inflation Tuesday, when the Bureau of Labor Statistics puts out its consumer price index for the month of June. As you may recall, the May report showed the biggest annual increase in consumer prices, 5%, in 13 years. But if you’re looking for the recent jump in home prices to show up in that number, you’re likely to be disappointed. The shelter component of inflation, as measured by the CPI, has stayed pretty steady, from around 2% to 3.5%, for the past decade. And some economists have a problem with that. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if your mortgage payment accounted for only 3.5 percent of your overall budget each month? Needless to say, such a figure is completely and totally unrealistic. For most of us, housing is the single biggest expense that we face on a regular basis.  And as I have documented in many previous articles, housing costs have been soaring into the stratosphere in recent months. Car prices are also rising at an extremely alarming pace.  According to CNN, the average price of a new car has shot up 12 percent over the past year… In May, the average new car price hit a record $38,255, according to JD Power, up 12% from the same period a year ago. About two-thirds of car buyers paid within 5% of the sticker price in May, with some paying even more. Instead of buying a new vehicle, you could purchase a used one instead, but used car prices increased 10.5 percent in just the last month… Last month alone, average used car prices soared 10.5 percent – the largest such monthly increase since record-keeping began in January 1953. That spike accounted for about one-third of the monthly increase for the third straight month. Renting vehicles has gotten a lot more expensive as well. In fact, average rental rates are up a whopping 86 percent since this point in 2020… Daily car rental rates have increased 86% compared to this time last year and 140% more than 2019, according to Julie Hall, a spokesperson for AAA. The “5.4 percent inflation” fairly tale that the Labor Department is trying to sell us is absolutely laughable. And as long as they keep putting out such doctored numbers, they are going to have zero credibility. Everyone can see that prices are skyrocketing all around us.  In such an environment, a restaurant in New York can charge 200 dollars for French fries and some people will actually pay that price… Serendipity3, the iconic Upper East Side restaurant, set a Guinness World Records title for making the “Most Expensive French Fries” — just in time to celebrate National French Fry Day Tuesday!Serendipity3’s Creative Director and Chef Joe Calderone and Corporate Executive Chef Frederick Schoen-Kiewert are the masterminds behind the “Creme de la Creme Pommes Frites,” which cost a whopping $200. Our leaders thought that they could pump trillions upon trillions of fresh dollars into the system without any serious consequences. Sadly, they were dead wrong. Inflation is wildly out of control, and one economist just told Breitbart News that the U.S. is starting “to look a little bit like a Latin American country”… Desmond Lachman, an economist and senior fellow with the American Enterprise Institute (AEI), told Breitbart News on Sunday that the U.S. is beginning to resemble a Latin American country given its inflation, government spending, and printing of money.“[The U.S. is] in [a]very bad position from a long-term point of view. I don’t see how this can end well when we’re running — now — budget deficits something like 15 percent of GDP,” Lachman said on SiriusXM’s Breitbart News Sunday with host Joel Pollak. “This is beginning to look a little bit like a Latin American country.” It is actually much worse than that. The truth is that we are in the terminal phase of the greatest debt bubble in the history of the world, and at such a critical moment U.S. officials have decided to systematically destroy the value of the reserve currency of the planet. Prior to the pandemic, the U.S. government was stealing more than a hundred million dollars an hour from future generations of Americans, but now our politicians have upped that rate to more than 300 million dollars an hour. And when the next major crisis comes along, they will pass even more “emergency packages”, because spending money is the only solution they have. Meanwhile, the Federal Reserve continues to pump giant mountains of money into the financial system.  Since September 2019, the size of the Fed balance sheet has more than doubled, and that should be considered a crime against humanity. Unfortunately, the vast majority of Americans don’t even know what the Federal Reserve is, and only a small fraction of the population actually understands what they are currently doing to our financial system. Facing no significant resistance, our politicians will continue to get us into staggering amounts of debt, and the Fed will continue to transform the U.S. dollar into toilet paper. Sadly, what they are doing is setting the stage for the collapse of the late, great U.S. economy, and the economic pain that is ahead will affect every single man, woman and child on the entire planet.

Crisis:exorcist diary

Did you know that
demons hate and fight
with one another?

Did you know that they
are terrified of being cast
back into hell?

Do you know that there
is a hierarchy of demons
similar to that of angels?

Did you know that exorcists
sometimes have to face down
Lucifer himself?

* * *

For the first time ever, an
exorcist priest reveals his private
diary
to offer an inside look at
what it’s like to be an exorcist
in America today.

Exorcist Msgr. Stephen Rossetti
has a very active caseload of demonic
possessions, and in each case two
vivid lessons consistently
emerge:

ONE:
Demons possess or harass
people in myriad ways (even
when they do not enter a body).

TWO:
They are defeated decisively by
the power of Christ and His Church—
and especially by invocations
to the Blessed Mother.

In these pages, Msgr. Rosetti shares,
without hype or varnish, what it is like,
on a daily basis, to face demons who
revile, threaten, and sometimes
spiritually « wound » him.

He describes the healing power
of Christ for the possessed—and for
the exorcist—and reveals amazing
moments when Christ and His
Church visibly triumph
over Satan.

The reader is afforded a unique
glimpse into the world of angels and
demons, and the struggles of the
possessed and those who
minister to them.

In this stunning, edifying,
true diary of an American
exorcist, you’ll learn:

  • What demonic possession is, and is not

  • What it’s like for an exorcist to face Lucifer himself

  • The factors and preconditions of possession

  • Common tactics of Satan and his typical lies

  • How God protects exorcists

  • The difference between strong and weak possessions

  • The hierarchy of demons (not all are equal)

  • Why demons choke people or at times focus on parts of the body

  • Why God does indeed “put Satan on a short leash”

  • Why humans can be attacked by demons, rare though it is

  • How demons fear and hate one another too

  • Why many devils can possess or infest one person

  • How anger “feeds” demons

  • How to cast out demons of fear

Crisis:The Prophets of Anti-West Ideology

The Prophets of Anti-West Ideology

Paul Krause

Antonio Gramsci Michel Foucault

Of all the civilizations of the world, the West is the most beleaguered and under attack. Making matters worse, it is often the children of the West—the descendants of those heroes, martyrs, and patriots who labored and died for faith, family, and fatherland—that are leading the desecration of Western Civilization. What, exactly, happened?

The enemy of Western Civilization goes by various names. Marxism is one, though this often obfuscates reality. Marxism is dead. And it has been dead for some time. Postmodernism is another. Postmodernism is trickier than Marxism since no one is quite sure what postmodernism is or stands for.  Advertisement – Continue Reading Below

Rather than beat around the bushes of Marxism and Postmodernism, it might be better to simply assert that the attack on Western Civilization is the anti-Western ideology. Where did it come from? And why should Catholics, especially, be concerned with it?

The prophets of the anti-Western ideology are not Marx and Engels nor Lenin and Trotsky. The prophets of the anti-Western ideology are Antonio Gramsci and Michel Foucault. While one might say that both were influenced by Marxism, hence Marxism is the enemy, this fails to take into consideration the profound rejection and revision of classical Marxist doctrine as well as the marriage of Gramsci and Foucault by late 1960s radicals—which was later codified when they entered the professional and professoriate class in the late 1980s and the 1990s, leveraging their power of endowed professorships and media employment to propagate their acidic ideology.

We should first start with Antonio Gramsci. Gramsci was an Italian socialist revolutionary who was imprisoned in Mussolini’s Italy. While in prison, he penned his famous Prison Notebooks, translated and brought to America by Notre Dame professor Joseph Buttigieg (father of Pete Buttigieg). Gramsci offered a grand rejection and revision of Marxism, analyzed why classical Marxism failed, and offered considerations on how the new revolution was to succeed. Advertisement – Continue Reading Below

Gramsci’s greatest contribution in the Prison Notebooks is his analysis of cultural hegemony. This is the real root of “systemic racism” and other critical theories that love the language of institutional oppression. Gramsci noted that the bourgeoisie prevented revolution because cultural consciousness, not class consciousness, was the real driving force of politics.

According to Gramsci, so long as the bourgeoisie and its values of patriotism, family, and religion dominated the institutions of society, society would be inherently counterrevolutionary. Cultural hegemony was a complex byproduct of the union of businesses, churches, media, educational establishments, and law. These cultural institutions reinforced the values of the standing majority and passed them on to the next generation, thereby preserving their cultural power.

The Marxist revolution failed because Marx never understood the importance of cultural consciousness or the role of institutions in maintaining cultural consciousness. From Gramsci, 60s radicals coined the term “The long march through the institutions.” Those influenced by Gramsci recognized his profound revelation: If the institutions of society remained in the hands of the patriotic and culturally Christian bourgeoisie, the radical utopian revolution would never come to fruition. It was necessary, then, for the revolutionaries to infiltrate the institutions, subvert the old values, propagate new values, and usher in the new revolutionary consciousness which would be held together by radical control of all institutional forces. The second prophet of the anti-Western ideology is Michel Foucault. The French intellectual and journalist was also a pederast, but since he is a revolutionary Leftist he remains acceptable to promote and sell for the cause of revolutionary change. Foucault wrote many works, too many to go into detail here, but there is a common thread that unites his various writings. I will briefly concentrate on two.

The History of Sexuality and Madness and Civilization are among Foucault’s recognized “masterpieces.” They are also often included in extracted form in many undergraduate classes ranging from history, philosophy, cultural anthropology, and gender studies. One of Foucault’s most famous statements, found in Madness and Civilization, is that “the ultimate language of madness is that of reason.”

What Foucault meant is that rationalism, rationality, and reasonableness are simply veils for tyrannical oppression. When we speak the language of rationality, Foucault argues, the real impetus behind it is suppression. Hence “law and order” becomes a veil for societal oppression of peoples deemed “dangerous” who are almost always minorities vis-à-vis the majority.  Advertisement – Continue Reading Below

In The History of Sexuality, Foucault goes to great lengths to humanize the sexual deviant. He argues that the demonization of the sexual other reveals the petty tyrannical insecurity of the sexual majority (the heterosexual male, especially). Foucault lionizes the deviant, the strange, and the perverse. They are the real paragons of humanity.

Throughout both works, Foucault asserts that the majority is always oppressive to the minority. The minority exists, inherently, as the other that the majority’s insecurities and pettiness are always pressed against. The majority, then, is always tyrannical and oppressive; the majority—the reasonable, the normal—is cast as the antagonist of human history and even civilization. They are enemies of freedom.

As such, the minority becomes the new martyr for Foucault. The minority has always been abused by the existing majority; it is now, however, in the new age of deconstruction that we can see the majority for what they truly are: petty and insecure tyrants (at least according to Foucault). In order to achieve freedom, there must be an inversion of the majority-minority relationship (itself a radical revision of Hegel’s “master-slave” dialectic based on recognition and emergent relationships of love). Freedom is achieved by the minority’s valorization and the overthrow of the majority’s values and laws in Foucault’s vision.

The marriage of Gramsci’s theory of cultural hegemony and Foucault’s deconstruction of the majority and idolization of the minority is the heart of the anti-Western ideology. Everything Western, because it is the majority and previously held institutional and cultural authority, becomes the embodiment of oppression and tyranny. Everything that is opposite the West, ipso facto, becomes the valorized minority that stands against Western oppression. The anti-Western ideology is, at its core, a celebration of everything alien to the Western tradition.

Thus the rule of law is understood as “white supremacy.” Thus freedom and individualism become code words for “white supremacy.” Thus religion becomes understood as an institutional force for “white supremacy.” Thus all structures of politics, law, and justice become systems of “white supremacy,” etc., etc., etc.

Hatred of Western history, heritage, and values becomes necessary for the anti-Western ideology to destroy the West. For the West, in this outlook, is the manifestation of all evils in the world. Only by denouncing everything Western—the cultural values and its majoritarian ideals—can the utopia eventually come into existence through the negation of everything Western.

Catholics, therefore, must understand how this anti-Western ideology will eventually be used as the battering ram against the Church. For the Church is a Western institution. The Church’s history is bound with that of the West; it matters not the contemporary global reality of the Church. The Church’s heritage, its literature, theology, and art, are all the products of the majority we must denounce and destroy.

We see this already with a renewed spurt of vandalism, church burnings, and denunciations. But no one cries for anti-Catholicism precisely because Catholicism is a Western faith and institution. Trying to claim the victim card misunderstands the nature of victimhood in the anti-Western ideology. Westerners can never be the victim; they are always the victimizers. This is why anti-Catholicism never has the attraction of anti-racism, anti-Semitism, or anti-colonialism.

If there is to be a future for Western Civilization, it runs through the veins of Catholics because Catholics must cherish their tradition and all that is good and noble in it. A recovery of the Church Fathers and Catholic literature is an undeniable return to Western sources. The teachings of the Church, which promote the values of faith, family, and community, stand to reinforce the very structures that anti-Western revolutionaries see as cruel and oppressive. Precisely because Catholicism is a Western religion, its survival will always be seen as a force for counterrevolutionary activity and a last bastion of Western sins: colonialism, oppression, misogyny, etc.

We already see the anti-Western ideology making its moves against the Church. This is not a time for Catholics to lie down, allow themselves to be bullied and intimidated, or—as is often the case with the hierarchy—denounce their own history and heritage in the name of “listening.” Doing so will make us all orphaned pilgrims, strangers in our own land, cut off from our own patrimony.

The survival of the West rests in its ability to recover its values and sources of ingenuity and sustenance. This will mean, minimally, a return to faith, family, and community. It will also entail a renewed love and appreciation of its history, heritage, and cultural accomplishments.

Catholicism, therefore, is uniquely positioned to lead this regeneration of Western Civilization. It may not be easy, but it is necessary for both the health of the Church and the resurrection of Western Civilization against the acidic and demonic forces seeking its total and complete annihilation. The end of Catholicism in the West is nothing short of a microcosm for the end of the West itself. The revival of Catholicism in the West would be nothing less than a revival of the West itself.

Crisis:The War to Destroy the Eucharist

The War to Destroy the Eucharist

Jerome German

Eucharist

Does the world need yet another article about wayward Catholic politicians and the Eucharistic scandal they and complicit bishops are providing? That depends. Persistence is optional if salvation is optional. One does not stop banging the pan with a spoon while the bear is still in the kitchen.

We walk among saints and monsters. Such are the days with which we are blessed. It is the ultimate naïveté or denial to live in our era and to be oblivious of the fact that we are walking through a battlefield. Such oblivion pleases the powers of darkness a great deal. When the unarmed wander onto the battlefield, they need not be resisted; they will fall in due time.  Advertisement – Continue Reading Below

On a battlefield, everything is a weapon: information, water, shelter, clothing, medicine, and last but certainly not least, food. Starving soldiers do not win wars. The supply line, or the lack thereof, will determine the outcome of a battle just as surely as the quality of the munitions or the training of the troops.

The Eucharist, when given to the dying, has been called by the Latin term viaticum, that is, food for the journey. In a sense, we are all dying from the moment of conception—on that journey to eternity we expend every breath in battle. To miss that fact is to miss life and to die without having lived—to perish for not having taken up life.

St. Padre Pio died the year I graduated from high school. His life was spent on the battlefield. Those who served him through his various illnesses tell us that he would say to them, “Bring me my weapon!” by which he meant his rosary, that ammunition belt of cartridges of love. In his zeal for the Eucharist, he declared: “It would be easier for the world to survive without the sun than to do without Holy Mass.” He knew a thing or two about spiritual warfare. He knew that starving, poorly-trained spiritual soldiers do not win wars.  Advertisement – Continue Reading Below

Have you any doubt that love can be a weapon? In a spiritual war, it is the only weapon. “Love your enemies; do good to those who persecute you,” Jesus instructed. God is love and love is power and might—the ultimate weapon. Some may intuit that truth and justice are weapons, but certainly not love. Their understanding is incomplete, for truth and justice are but salient attributes of love.

How then can one “weaponize the Eucharist”? How does one weaponize that which is, in spiritual warfare, already both the ultimate supply line and the ultimate munition—the truth that vanquishes?

By now you are thinking, and correctly so, that—concerning the hullabaloo about politicians and communion—what I am saying completely misses the mark; that, when speaking of their fear of weaponizing the Eucharist, the bishops and pundits are referring specifically to the withholding of the Eucharist. Advertisement – Continue Reading Below

Ah. Yes. Of course. It is the withholding that is feared and derided—but certainly not for the lack of the viaticum withheld!

Those who receive unworthily do not even acknowledge the existence of the battlefield of life—the confrontation that permeates all of existence. Viaticum is of no value for the pusillanimous struggle they are waging on the battlefield of vanity, a silly little sociopolitical game of prestige and saving face, the stuff of middle-school popularity contests. Theirs is the immaturity that permeates our era. By supporting them in their sad little diversion from reality, our bishops are preventing their charges from marching onto the battlefield of life and are galvanizing their oblivion to the real battle. They thereby sacrifice these errant souls on the altar of their own petty clerical games of prestige and saving face.

Of course, none of us can judge the soul of any person, but that is not the point. We have a duty to warn others from evil. No one really expects that withholding Communion from them will work against them politically, and suggesting politics as a motive for the withholding is just a strawman argument designed to paralyze the Church. If anything, withholding Communion from errant Catholics may enhance their sociopolitical standing among those who share their sociopathy.  Advertisement – Continue Reading Below

But to treat their rejection of the precepts of the Faith as acceptable is to advance the evil they promote; those who promote this laxity are complicit in the evil thus promoted, and they are potentially complicit in the loss of the rejector’s soul and the souls of the scandalized. To commune with heresy for the sake of unity is to mock unity; it is to cast aside the “sign of contradiction”; that is, it is to cast aside the source of real unity: the very One received in that Communion.

So…what to do? What is unfolding before our eyes is nothing less than an all-out war on the Eucharist. The “source and summit of our faith”—the bazillion megaton love bomb—must be disarmed in order to defeat the Faith. No one is more certain of this than Satan. Christianity has no secret weapon because it has no secret anything. There is a deep need on the part of those complicit in the massive atrocities of our age to find solace in a communion that is only a symbol: a shallow, shared affection; a brazen insignia of mutual back-scratching and goings-along to get along; an emblem of solidarity in sin—the salvation of safety in numbers.

For them, real Communion must be annihilated. Actually believing that one is receiving the real Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of the Godman, while in a deep state of moral compromise, is a terrifying proposition. Any exorcist worth his salt will attest to the terror that the presence of the Eucharist instills in demons. Satanists don’t go to churches of symbolic communions to steal bread to desecrate. One can only desecrate that which “hosts” something greater. Symbolic bread hosts nothing. Only real hosts will do.

It seems that some of our bishops may genuinely believe that a remedy for the spiritually defiant is the spiritual shock potential of receiving the Eucharist. But they grossly underestimate the human ability to deny reality. Demons, of course, are not in a position to deny the reality of the Eucharist. God has allowed them the kindness that is Hell; allowed them to escape the torment of His love, the judgment of His mercy—that unrelenting forgiveness that tortures their pride. But truth—the Eucharistic Christ, the Word made flesh, the witness to eternal love—they cannot escape; they can hide, but they cannot forget. It is truth that torments them.

Humans, on the other hand, are escape artists—spiritual Houdinis. We build what demons cannot build: empires of distraction. It’s one of the dangerous niceties of temporal life not available in eternity.

Not only do we walk among saints and monsters, but we walk among more of each of them than at any time before. While the case is made every day for a world-view of fifty shades of gray, it daily becomes clearer to all but distraction’s zombies that our choices are increasingly black or white: monster or saint. Jesus despises the middle ground—the centrists—the lukewarm; and He despises, more than anything, the vomitous kingdom of symbolic communion.
