»  « Vraiment surréaliste », a répondu Fauci.

This Man Is a Real Thing on the Internet ».

Fauci l’a ignoré.

Egon von Greyerz:Translating Yellen-Speak into Golden-Speak

Translating Yellen-Speak into Golden-Speak

June 14, 2021

By Matthew Piepenburg

Given the increasingly politicized interplay (cancer) of central bank policy and so-called free market price discovery, it’s becoming increasingly more important to track the actions of central bankers rather than just traditional market signals alone.

Like it or not, the Fed is the market.

Toward this end, we’ve had some substantive fun deciphering the past, current and future implications of “forward guidance” from our openly mis-guided crop of central bankers, most notably Greenspan, Bernanke and Powell.

But let’s not forget Janet Yellen.

As we see below, translating Yellen-speak into blunt speak tells us a heck of a lot about the future.

The Open and Obvious Debt Crisis

Back in 2018, Janet Yellen (former Fed Chairwoman and current Treasury Secretary, eh hmmm) along with Jason Furman (current Biden economic advisor) observed in a Washington Post Op-Ed that, “a U.S. debt crisis is coming, but don’t blame entitlements.”

As I like to say, “that’s rich.”

As in all things economic, the motives and thinking coming out of DC are largely political, which means they are self-serving, partisan and predominantly disastrous.

As for translating Yellen’s political-speak into honest English, the motives for this 2018 warning were two-fold: 1) Yellen and Furman were making a partisan attack on Trump’s then $1T budget proposal, and 2) Yellen actually believed what she said and that the US was indeed careening toward “a debt crisis.”

In fact, we were already in a debt crisis in 2018, a crisis which has simply risen to much higher orders of magnitude in the three short years since Yellen’s “warning” was made.

Stated otherwise, Yellen will get her debt crisis. It’s ticking right in front of her.

Tracking the Debt Trail

Ironically, the most obvious metrics of the current and ever-expanding debt crisis began just months after Yellen’s infamous Op-Ed.

In October of 2018, FX-hedged Treasuries went negative and Powell’s Fed began buying $60B worth of T-Bills/month without calling the same “QE” despite it being…well QE.

That pesky little debt crisis in 2018 then went parabolic a year later when the repo-spike of September 2019 forced the same Fed to crank out the money printers and once again fatten its increasingly overweight and embarrassing balance sheet.

Throughout this period, we consistently reminded investors that some of the best assets in a debt crisis are gold and silver to hedge against the growing and the impending currency debasement.

I also wrote that the volatility (VIX) trade, for those who know how to do it, would be effective in addressing the market volatility that always follows the political volatility (i.e., mistakes) which policy makers create/make in a debt crisis.

Speaking of gold and volatility, history reminds us of the kind of volatility that can occur in a sovereign debt crisis, with Weimar being the most obvious example, yet one for which no one, to their detriment, thinks is repeatable:

Translating Yellen Is Getting Quite Simple: Inflation Ahead

Looking forward, translating Yellen’s political-speak (as opposed to her former Fed-speak) is actually getting quite simple.

This year, she’s already confessed that she believes “we must re-orient our framing of fiscal policy.”

In plain English, that just means we can expect a lot more deficit spending to come from the Biden-Yellen tag-team in DC.

But this time, there’s an interesting twist to the nature and target of that spending, namely, there’s going to be trillions more of it, but it’s heading toward Main Street’s middle class not Wall Street’s upper class.

Regardless of one’s politics, math (thankfully) remains non-partisan.

We know, for example, that fiscal policy (however spent and wherever directed) will have a far greater impact on inflation than just more monetary policy alone.

This is because the deficit-spent money from fiscal stimulus goes directly into the real economy, unlike the fiat-created dollars of monetary stimulus which goes directly into the Fed’s balance sheet.

Extreme fiscal (deficit) spending under the “New Deal-like” Biden-Yellen administration is already multi-trillion in nature, and will continue to be as such going forward.

In short, get ready far more “fiscal stimulus,” more debt, and hence more inflation ahead.

Debt as a Growth Policy?

Needless to say, “debt as a growth policy” is an oxymoron. Once national debt to GDP ratios cross the 100% Rubicon, growth is mathematically stifled.

Does Yellen grasp this simple truth?

Like Yellen, I took basic math at Brown University, but I’m surprised to infer that perhaps she’s forgotten such classwork.

Did Yellen combine her math courses with some intro to mythical studies or fiction writing seminars?

Or maybe she snuck over to the RISD campus and gained some course credits in magic lessons, for when there’s more debt than dollars to pay it, she somehow feels that she can always return to her familiar money printer at the Eccles Building and magically create more and increasingly debased dollars to service the same.

Abra cadabra, right?

Well, not really.

Magical Money, Dying Money

The magical fantasy of such magical MMT “solutions” ignores one harsh yet simple reality: It’s a currency killer and openly dishonest illusion.

So, what’s a former Fed Chair and current political Treasury Secretary like Yellen to do in a world of delusion?

Simple, create more delusion.

The New Bretton Woods

With all the politico charm of a cozy bed-time story for America, Yellen is already telegraphing her next move with a warm and fuzzy nostalgia to the by-gone days of the 1940’s and the world’s then much-needed response to the horrors of World War 2 (no comparison at all to the fear-porn era of the COVID horrors)—namely Bretton Woods.

For those who forgot, the Bretton Woods meeting of 1944 is when America’s then gold-backed dollar became the new global currency under Uncle Sam’s military leadership and relative economic strength over the war-ravaged economies of Asia and Europe.

Well, Yellen is now thinking about a “New Bretton Woods” with her equally delusional, political and hence-self-serving cronies at the IMF.

She described these IMF get-togethers “as no less significant than the Bretton Woods meetings in 1944.”

That too is rich…

Translated into honest English, Yellen et al are trying to compare the death rate and economic destruction of the COVID crisis (made more so by policy reactions than daily viral threats) to the unimaginable economic, political and social horrors of the Second World War in which 85 million people perished and national economies simply vanished in the rubble.

That’s real horror, as any of us who know the survivors and victims of that period can attest.

Today, policy makers are trying to compare (or propagandize) the admittedly scary years of the COVID crisis (and its tragic 3.75M death toll) to the far more nightmarish and frankly unimaginable period of 1939-45 suffering and carnage.

Why?

Exploiting a Crisis. Hiding from Responsibility. Justifying Excess.

Well, as Churchill said around the same time, “never let a good crisis go to waste.”

In essence, the absolutely reckless authors of the biggest debt crisis in the history of the world PRE-COVID are now using this media-fired and politically-charged global flu as both the cause of, and pretext for, even more debt—all to be paid for with even more fake, fiat dollars.

Only now there’s a twist going forward.

Rather than create currencies out of thin air, the new global “leadership” and their private banking/independent policy makers at the debt-guilty IMF are going to create digital fake money out of thin air.

In short, more debt binges ahead, all likely to be paid for with more fake money ahead—but with far more digital CBDC panache.

Same Ol’ Same Ol’

Ultimately, however, what Yellen and the IMF Wunderkinder are proposing boils down to a distinction without a difference.

In short, their plan is nothing more than the same ol’ delusional, irresponsible and self-serving fantasy that a debt crisis can be solved with more debt.

So, what can we expect in the near-term in this backdrop of the absurd?

First, the direction ahead for Yellen is just as we’ve expected and warned, namely a weak USD policy to help soften the damage of a debt crisis (which she helped create) with increasingly inflated (over-created) and hence debased U.S. dollars.

Powell has so much as confessed to this policy of higher inflation “allowance” (as opposed to “targeting”) for the simple reason that inflation helps sovereigns like Uncle Sam dig out of debt holes created by current and prior “leadership” at the Fed and White House—debt holes which they conveniently blame on COVID rather than the bathroom mirror.

Secondly, we are seeing the slow move away from the USD’s “reserve status” as structured since Nixon welched “temporarily” in 1971 on the very gold standard created at Bretton Woods in 1944. That, however, will take years, not weeks.

Given the foregoing, we repeat our conviction that the current inflationary cycle, despite Fed-speak to the contrary, is going to be anything but “transitory.”

Inflation, Repressed Rates and More Currency Debasement Ahead

Given the foregoing and now undeniable debt crisis and openly telegraphed-changes to come (viz: inflation, currency debasement and artificial yield repression), the foreseeable future is plain to see for any who have eyes to see it.

As for rates and debt, former IMF Chief Economist, Olivier Blanchard, is as “insider” as insiders can get, and he’s no fool when it comes to bailing out his own past mistakes.

If debt is too high, then he knows it’s essential to keep the cost of that debt (interest rates) artificially stapled to the floor.

All Roads Lead to Gold

So, there you have it, straight from the horses’ mouths: Rising inflation and lowering bond yields—the ideal setting for gold in the years ahead.

Frankly, and sadly, bonds will be of little help in this new “ab-normal.” The grossly over-bought and grossly distorted (inflated) credit markets just aren’t the bonds our fathers and grandfathers bought for safety, yield or hedging.

Gold, however, accomplishes, hedging, safety and appreciation with far greater consistency than bonds.

Without exaggeration or echo-chamber bias, we stick to our conviction that all roads, policies and discussions turn back to physical gold and silver.

Again, and in short, the present is obvious: A Debt crisis beyond reason. And without precedent.

The future is no less obvious: More currency debasement, more pro-inflationary policies and more double-speaking politicos/financial foxes pretending to fix an economic henhouse which they’ve already raided/broken.

The Dollar’s Future

Given the harsh reality of our harsh debt crisis, the US is so thoroughly saturated in debt levels of its own making that equally grotesque levels of future spending will be the norm at the open and obvious expense of the currency.

This would explain why Russia plans to cut the USD holdings in its wealth fund to zero in favor of more euro’s and, you guessed it: Gold.

The harsh reality of harsh debt makes the path forward fairly predictable, to the extent anything is predictable.

The Cost of De-Levering

History confirms that when nations get too far (waaayyyyy tooooo far) over their skis in debt, the only way to get their debt-to-GDP levels below the deadly 100% marker (130% for the US today) is to “de-lever” their bloated balance sheet over a 5-10-year horizon.

Such deleveraging would require high-teens GDP growth acceleration against a US debt growth rate of 8.75% CAGR.

In our mind, the Yellen-telegraphed policy of “serial stimulus” ahead to achieve such growth and de-leveraging will likely be inflationary.

In such a tragic yet openly telegraphed setting, gold is prepared.

Modern-Day Serfdom is the End Goal?- by Martin Armstrong

Modern-Day Serfdom is the End Goal?

Spread the love

QUESTION: Regarding the G7, which committed us to more stimulus, I can totally see where this is going. You are the historian. Do you not think this is where we end up – capitatio-lugatio. Same exact pattern.

Anonymous

ANSWER: For those who are not familiar with capitatio-lugatio, this was the tax collection system developed by Diocletian (284-305AD), which determines the amount levied on agriculturally productive land. This was a major tax reform following the collapse of the Roman monetary system following the capture of Emperor Valerian I (253-260AD) by the Persians.

Most of the historical analysis is lacking mainly because they never saw the magnitude of the collapse in the monetary system. In the course of just 8.6 years following the capture of Valerian I in 260Ad and the assassination of his son Gallienus in 268AD, we can see the Antoninianuc, which was largely silver in 260AD, because just a debased coin that was simply bronze chemically plated with a thin coat of silver must like our clas coinage which began in 1965.

Inflation went nuts because once the people saw that Valerian I had been captured and turned into a slave, suddenly Romans saw themselves as vulnerable. This had profound implications for it was the primary reason Christianity soared. Diocletian began fierce persecutions of Christians under the theory that the gods were angry with Rome because they would not worship them so they were punishing Rome. That is why the persecutions took place.

Then because word spread that Valerian had been captured by the Persians in the East, suddenly all the barbarians in the North began to invade believing that Rome was then vulnerable. At the same time, there was a plague. Emperor Claudius II (268-270AD) had assassinated Gallienus but then died of the plague. They called him Gothicus because he defeated the Goth invasion which brought them all the way down to Milan. This led his successor Emperor Aurelian (270-275AD) to construct the wall around Rome which was not necessary previously. Additionally, it was Aurelian who sent in the Troops into Rome to do battle with the bureaucrats running the mint who were debasing the coinage, not by official decree, but they were robbing the silver for themselves. They were then plating the bronze coins with silver which previously had been a trick of counterfeiters.

Unfortunately, the Historia Augusta (HA) which is a collection of thirty biographies of Roman emperors, co-emperors, and usurpers in chronological order from Hadrian to Carus and his sons, stops just shy of Diocletian. As usual, this was claimed to be a fraud because some of the names of emperors nobody ever heard of. But when two coins were discovered in Egypt with the name of Saturninus, these historical accounts were proven to be authentic and this became the rarest of all Roman coin that is probably worth between $5 and $10 million today (one remains in the Louver).

Diocletian (284-305AD) was the great reformer. Diocletian completed the monetary reforms introduced by Aurelian in 274AD after he waged war on the corruption in the mint. In 286AD he began to try to fight inflation by reforming the coinage. The gold he raised the weight of the Aureus striking them at 60 to the pound raising that from 70 to the pound previously.

Diocletian then reintroduced silver coinage (argenteus) with weight and fitness which effectively reestablished the old standard from the time of Nero (54-68AD) who began the debasement.

Tetrarchy-Medallion

Diocletian then turned to political reform.  He is also the first Emperor to actually retire and hand power to the next in line. There were 22/23 emperors/usurpers who followed Gallienus’ assassination in 268AD. Diocletian sought to end the constant waring and split the empire between East and West and appointed a co-emperor and each had a Caesar who was to be their successor. This political structure was called the Tetrarchy. This was set up in 293AD but it was most likely following his attempts to reform the empire alone which proved to be formidable.

Finally, about 297AD he introduced a reform of the bronze coinage which he reintroduced. However, his monetary reform failed to halt price inflation. People simply hoarded the new currency, especially silver. This had the opposite effect and inflation accelerated.

Meanwhile, corresponding with the introduction of bronze coinage in 297AD, we also see that Diocletian radically restructured the tax system, in an effort to re-establish economic stability. largely by changing the property tax base and strengthening the system of perception. However, the Diocletian tax reform was carried out as early as 287AD in hopes of suspending inflation. Diocletian attempted to gain control of the chaotic usurpations of nearly 23 emperors in the 26-year period before his reign by preventing travel as we see once again with the attempt to impose COVID Passports.

Indeed, if you were discharged from the Army you needed your papers which were really etched in bronze plates. Diocletian’s response to economic pressures and in order to protect the vital functions of the state, he restricted social and professional mobility ending the freedom of profession and the freedom of movement. Diocletian decreed that the peasants became tied to the land creating a form of serfdom. Workers in various trades such as a store-keeper, blacksmiths, public entertainers, and various bureaucrats all became occupations made hereditary. We find tomb markers depicting their trade in life.

Even soldiers’ children were forced to become soldiers regardless of their ability all because there was then an increase in trying to recruit soldiers. This made the draft really draconian.

Diocletian also took it upon himself to restructure society and tried to resurrect and preserve the ancient virtues. He sought to obligate children to feed their parents in old age which of course was a retirement directive. Parents were directed to treat their children justly. He also ordered that spouses should end adultery and respect the laws of marriage. In matters of law, children were not to bear witness against their fathers, or slaves against their masters. In respect to private property, he upheld a creditor’s rights but also insisted that contract clauses were to be protected. He also outlawed the use of torture if truth could be discovered otherwise and encouraged governors to be as autonomous as possible. The United States is proficient at torture and simply pretends that also long as a physical mark is not left of the body then it is not torture. Threats, isolated confinement, deprivation of heat,  and waterboarding are not torture in the eyes of American judges. The corruption in American courts is no different than what Diocletian forbid.

Consequently, Diocletian imposed social changes that were more totalitarian in his effort to gain control of the economy. He this also create a uniform system of taxation throughout the empire. Rome did not have income taxes. Instead, Rome had a property tax, known as the annona, which Diocletian then based on the available labor and livestock (capita) as well as after the cultivated land (iugera) calculated by tax estimates (censitores). Therefore, the assessment of taxes was based on the categories of people and animals (caput) and land (iugum) combined with each other (which mainly affected the rural population) and also subjected Italy to direct taxation, which had not been the case before Diocletian. This became what people today are calling for as a wealth tax on everything you own, but on top of your income taxes.

This system combined two pre-existing taxes, the iugatio (affecting land rents) and capitatio (affecting individuals) failed to subdue the inflation in addition to the monetary reforms. According to this methodology, the complex of arable land was divided into the various regions, according to the type of crop and their yield, into fiscal units called iuga, while the population was instead divided into fiscal units called capita. The value assigned to iuga and capita was not fixed but varied according to the individual provinces and the needs of the state budget.

Consequently, Diocletian took into account the individual performance. While contemporary authors complained, such as Lucius C. Lactantius (c. 250–325AD) who was the first Christian writer in Latin to attempt a general account of the religious history of humanity and of Rome, we must take into account that the backdrop was also the end of freedom of movement, not just religious persecutions.

The amount of tax to be paid was initially determined every five years. However, this changed to then every 15 years in 312AD. Without question, the new tax system enabled steadily flowing income, especially for the eastern part of the empire which was more secure than the West which could be easily invaded by the Germanic tribes. Diocletian tax reform merged the land and personal taxes into this single tax, the capitatio-iugatio, which was a form of wealth tax rather than income for it was based on the factors of production: men, beasts, lands. Diocletian created a massive land register of the wealth of the entire Empire.

Eventually, the Persians admired the tax reforms of Diocletian and adopted a similar tax reform in the Sassanid Empire during the 6th century. However, since the capitatio-iugatio ended up tying the peasant to the land, contributing to the training of serfs, this created what seemed to emerge as the “norm” for when Rome fell in the West in 476AD, what emerged thereafter was serfdom as the normal state of society. We see this carry forward into the 14th century which took the Black Plague to bring to an end and for capitalism to reemerge. Under this system, land without peasant labor that remained uncultivated cannot be subject to tax for it produced nothing.  Therefore, the Roman government under Diocletian set in motion a structural change in society that would prevail in itself for about 600 years. With the Black Plague and the loss of 50% of the population, landlords began to offer wages for peasants to work their land.

The failure of Diocletian’s monetary reforms to suppress inflation forced Diocletian to introduce wage and price controls. We see the very same mistake that is made in modern times by the hard-money people who assume that it is the lack of a backing of the currency that leads to inflation. Here we have a major monetary reform that failed despite the restoration of silver coinage and the increase in weight of the gold aureus. Clearly, the issue was not even the quality of the money. The most profound impact leading to inflation was the collapse in confidence in government and even the power of the Roman Empire to remain invulnerable.

The Romans used the reverse side of their coinage as newspapers. Here we have Diocletian striking a coin with Fortuna who is typically pictured as holding the ancho or rudder of a ship in one hand and the cornucopia in the other. This is typically the origin of the hope for good fortune meaning on a whim she can change the course of your life like turning a rudder on a ship or give you everything you ever dreamed of. Clearly, this is something intended to inspire confidence that the “luck” of Rome is changing.

Moneta holding scales in one hand and cornucopia in the other symbolized plenty. The Roman goddess Juno Moneta (Latin Iūno Monēta) is where we derive the word “money” and also the “mint” where the money was created and flows from. As the legend goes, the Gauls attempted to invade the city of Rome quietly but had frightened the sacred flock of geese who made a lot of noise at the Temple of Juno. This alerted the Romans to the surprise attack giving us the word “monere, meaning “to warn” in Latin. The Temple of Juno then became popularly known as the Temple of Juno Moneta. Since this is where the coins were minted, we now arrive at the word “money” that springs from the origin of this legend and place that was an ancient mint.

Our term, such as capital flow, emerges from the Latin word “currere” meaning “to run” or “to flow.” This is where the money flowed from and gives us the word “currency” meaning the “flow of money.” This is why Juno Moneta is pictured on Roman coins as holding the balance scales in one hand and a cornucopia in the other symbolizing endless bounty or wealth. This is the birth of the terms “money” and “currency.” Diocletian is clearly suggesting that the monetary reform will restore the confidence of the ages.

Edict Diocletian

In 301AD, Diocletian attempted to control inflation by issuing a maximum price edict and salaries of workers which is the same reaction that was taken by President Richard Nixon following the collapse of Bretton Woods. Diocletian’s edict has survived and it shows the same attempt to regulated wages and prices as implemented in Babylon by the Hammurabi Legal Code of 1780BC. This complied with the ECM of 242 intervals of 8.6-years. We will find the many periods in time along the way that comply with this same frequency from Solon the Lawgiver of Athens to the fall of Athens to Sparta in 404BC.

Despite all the reform efforts, the Roman Empire was collapsing because the confidence just imploded. Even the Roman officials in the periphery provinces had begun to just rule on their own taking the spoils of taxation for themselves. With the collapse in confidence and Diocletian restriction of movement, shortages in supply added to the inflation. Innovation came to a halt and commerce began to stall much as we have witnessed with the lockdowns thanks to COVID. Video Player00:0001:18

Once again, as the confidence in governments is collapsing and the socialistic system of endless borrowing had met a brick wall thanks to Marco Draghi taking interest rates negative in 2014, we see a very similar situation developing. While the head of state may not have been captured by the Persians, the election of Donald Trump in 2016 represented to them a usurpation of power since he was a “populist” rather than a career politician. I am not being a Trump supporter nor partisan, Career politicians simply do not want any outsider playing in their backyard. It has nothing to do with what Trump said or did not say. He was just not one of them.

When we look closely at the events around Diocletian, we have a very similar crisis waiting for us. The social system is crashing for governments will be unable to continue to borrow at these absurd low levels of interest rates.  They are cleverly planning their release of cryptocurrencies so all money can be traced and taxes collected. They too are seeking to create an identity-based accounting of all money. The cryptocurrency has been allowed to blossom with the end-game to simply seize everything and swap it for government cryptos.

Today, and in the 3rd century, people have been hoarding their money until Biden took office and inflation has begun to rise. This is why inflation did not appear despite the rising supply of money because people did not trust the future post-2008. The collapse in real estate back then really upset the average person who regarded that as their retirement. We find massive hoards of even debased coins from the 3rd century provide it was not even the metal content. With barbarians at the Gates, people simply did not spend money leading to deflation and the economic decline. When Diocletian came to power and introduced all of these reforms, that is when we begin to see inflation rise sharply.

Perhaps most important concerning Diocletian’s program of domestic reform, he clearly followed some of the leads of his predecessors who had made some tentative attempts in the same direction of reforms. The emperor Gallienus had excluded senators from the army and separated the control of the military from civil careers. The Senate had progressively been deprived of its privileges in an effort to reduce its power. Diocletian recognized this same trend and structurally arranged the government in such a manner that led toward the centralized control that put all powers at his disposal. We see the very same strategy to end democracy unfolding today.

Diocletian designated the consuls to watch over the affairs of the state and distanced the senators from any collaboration with respect to making the laws. Today, we have the structure of the European Union whereby the people can vote for the Parliament, but they have no power to create law – that is done by the Commission which never stands for election. Klaus Schwab’s World Economic Forum is pushing this very same structure to eliminate elections and reduce them at best to symbolic.

We also see that Diocletian used bureaucrats, unelected actors, as imperial counselors (consilia sacra) which he appointed to run specialized offices with their loyalties to his administration – not the senate. He expressly defined the power of the praetorian prefects (personal bodyguards to the emperor) and limited that for this is where often usurpers arose. The number of bureaucrats increased dramatically under Diocletian. Over the next 50 years, it would often be said that there were more people in government than there were paying taxes. This was the beginning of the bureaucracy and technocracy that was eventually overrun the empire and became excessive under Byzantium rule. This is once again emerging here in modern times as there is always an expansion of government for the more the economy declines, the more power they try to claim to maintain that power.

Diocletian even reorganized the army sending the local troops to the frontier and the main movable army was made domestic. He also increased the size of the army Troop strength was increased by a fourth (not multiplied by four as Lactantius claims). There too, Diocletian’s reforms became our norm whereby he exempted soldiers from duty after 20 years of service which became our standard for retirement into modern times.

It appears that these reforms did manage to create some short-term financial stability. However, the rise of Constantine I the Great following his father’s death, who was an heir in line for succession, led to the collapse of the political reforms. Constantine, which mother was a Christian, promoted Christianity for political purposes saying that there is one God and there should be one Emperor – in heaven as on earth. Video Player00:0001:28

History is repeating. The monetary reforms they have planned are slowly being leaked out drip by drip because they know they will never get the people to support it. This virus has been exploited for political gain to shut down the movement of the people as was the case with Diocletion. They are seeking to centralize power in a one-world government once again and the outcome of this will be the same – war. History repeats because human nature never changes and the idea which emerges are just like watching the same movie day after day

Senator Jekyll and President Hyde

EDITORIAL: Which persona will Biden adopt when his budget is addressed by Congress?

The Editors Editorial June 12, 2021

Now that President Joe Biden has submitted his 2022 budget to Congress without the inclusion of Hyde Amendment language that sharply restricts federal taxpayers’ funding of abortion, his pro-abortion presidential credentials are established beyond any dispute.

This means that all Catholics are left to hope for, in terms of any faint residual fidelity to Church teachings on abortion Biden may have, is the possibility that he might avoid pressuring the trio of Catholic Democratic U.S. senators who still support the amendment to endorse his own egregious failure to respect religious freedom and pro-life Americans.

If Biden does back away from the issue and doesn’t twist the arms of Sens. Joe Manchin of West Virginia, Tim Kaine of Virginia and Bob Casey of Pennsylvania, the Hyde Amendment language will likely be reinstated when the federal budget passes through the Senate, as noted in our article about this matter.

To put matters more colorfully, is there any chance that Biden might revert partway back to his earlier, more principled “Senator Jekyll” position of supporting this congressional amendment that protects pro-life Americans from being forced to participate in the funding of abortion? Or has he permanently transformed into “President Hyde,” with a political persona that is unalterably committed to unqualified support for the profound evil of legal abortion?

During his 36 years of service as a U.S. senator, Biden was never anything near a pro-life stalwart. Indeed, like the Democratic Party as a whole, over the course of his long political career, Biden has become steadily more accommodating of pro-abortion extremism, despite continuing claims that he remains “personally opposed” to abortion. But he did at least retain his stated support for the Hyde Amendment until he left the Senate in 2008, in keeping with a pledge in a 1994 letter to constituents that “I will continue to abide by the same principle that has guided me through my 21 years in the Senate: Those of us who are opposed to abortion should not be compelled to pay for them.” In fact, he maintained this position afterward throughout his eight years as vice president during Barack Obama’s presidency.

Unfortunately for the lives of unborn babies, Biden’s long-standing commitment to the principle that those who oppose abortion shouldn’t be forced to fund the life-destroying procedure was discarded — without any apparent regret — on the presidential campaign trail in June 2019, as soon as it became evident that a refusal to jettison his support for the amendment could cost him the Democratic nomination.

Rather than explain how this flagrantly hypocritical flip-flop could be squared with his alleged belief that “abortion is always wrong,” he resorted instead to the abortion lobby’s cynical talking point that restrictions on tax-funded abortions discriminate against economically disadvantaged minority women. It’s cynical because these are the very women who are already disproportionately targeted by Planned Parenthood and other abortion providers. The rate of abortion for African American women, for example, is four times higher than for white women, according to Centers for Disease Control data. Biden also cannot justify his abandonment of principle on the grounds that the Hyde Amendment has made little difference in terms of the incidence of abortions. According to an analysis by the pro-life Charlotte Lozier Institute, the amendment saves the lives of more than 60,000 unborn babies each year, and its effectiveness in reducing abortions has been confirmed by more than 20 peer-reviewed academic studies. Abortion activists don’t dispute the validity of such assessments either; a 2009 study by the pro-abortion Guttmacher Institute found that it reduces the number of abortions among Medicaid recipients by 25%.

The intensity of the current attacks on the Hyde Amendment by the abortion lobby is further evidence of its effectiveness: If it didn’t reduce abortions, thereby reducing the abortion industry’s cash flow alongside of saving unborn babies’ lives, abortion activists would have no reason to oppose retention of the amendment so vociferously.

Another point to bear in mind is that the current Catholic occupant of the Oval Office is the first president since 1993 to deliver a proposed budget to Congress that didn’t include Hyde Amendment language. Despite being almost totally aligned with pro-abortion advocacy throughout his time in office, even President Obama never tried to do the same — despite the fact that, unlike Biden, Obama was not constrained by claims that he was “personally opposed” to abortion on the grounds of his religious faith.

Of course, it has now become obvious that Biden does not intend to allow his Catholic faith to inhibit him from directing his administration to promote abortion and other agendas that contradict Catholic beliefs; at the start of June, the Catholic League for Religious and Civil Rights released a list documenting 32 actions since January that have significantly departed from Church teachings. In light of all of this, what reasons are there to think Biden might not aggressively push in the Senate for the eradication of the Hyde Amendment and that he might instead be content to see it survive?

Such hopes rest partly on the fact that he has avoided using the word “abortion” since his election, suggesting some hesitation on his part about seeming to be personally too wholeheartedly aboard the abortion-rights bandwagon. There’s also the fact that he has so much personal experience of how the Senate operates and might be disinclined because of that experience from trying to strong-arm Manchin, Kaine and Casey into closer alignment with the Democratic Party’s pro-abortion orthodoxy. And maybe he has even been paying a little bit of attention to the multitude of comments by prominent Church leaders in the U.S. calling him to account over his continued reception of Communion despite his frequent political breaches of fundamental Catholic moral teachings.

Admittedly, this doesn’t provide a lot of hope for a covert reemergence of Biden’s former “Senator Jekyll” persona, with respect to acknowledging the principle that Americans who oppose abortions “should not be compelled to pay for them,” as he said himself back in 1994. Still, any hope is better than none, given that “President Hyde” has abandoned any pretense for balance when it comes to protecting the unborn, the most vulnerable among us. Let us pray for the president and continue to press him with the truth.

At least 4 of the leaders profess to be practicing Catholics. Francis has said abortion is really a bad thing. But when does he ever back up his words with actions. The early church excommunicated those who were apostates and refused to die for the church. Vatican II was a call to return to the origins of the Church. Yet we only seem to want to return to the origins when it doesn’t cost us anything. When is Francis going to act? Pius XII acted to save Jews. He ordered the church to go into action to save the lives of Jews who were in dire circumstances. I don’t think Pius would have permitted Catholic Leaders to continue to claim to be Catholic, and go to communion while helping the Germans exterminate Jews. Why does Francis and Cardinal Cupich, and Cardinal Tobin, and Cardinal Gregory think Catholic Politicians can support these modern extermination camps of abortion and continue to call themselves Catholic. This lacks all consistency and credibility. We have a major issue either way. Either Biden was not elected by the majority of the people, but election fraud got him into office. Or the American people knew Biden had early dementia, hid answers through fraud or misrepresentation, hid in his basement, and knew the left minions would run the Oval Office and voted for him anyway.

To defeat abortion, and the other evils we see, the American people must be convinced it is evil. If that is possible since most have lost their conscience. Then biden, Pelosi, and all the rest will not be elected. Maybe then we can have a country worth dying for again.

Marijuana Reality Check: Pot Gains Legal Ground in US

But Catholics continue to oppose its use, for reasons grounded in the Church’s moral and social justice teachings.

Efforts to legalize recreational marijuana use are blazing across the country at an unprecedented pace, with Catholic moral theologians and policy experts struggling to stop the spread.

This year alone, state legislatures in New York, Virginia and New Mexico have legalized recreational marijuana usage, and legalization legislation is also under consideration in Delaware. The passages come on the heels of successful November 2020 ballot initiatives that legalized recreational use in Montana, Arizona, and New Jersey and South Dakota (though judges in the latter state have blocked the law from going into effect).

In total, recreational pot is now legal in 17 states plus the District of Columbia, an astounding development considering that the practice wasn’t legal in any state only nine years ago, before citizens in Colorado and Washington voted for it. Today, marijuana is legal for medical use in 19 additional states, and is completely illegal in only 14.

Efforts to legalize recreational pot are even picking up steam at the federal level. In December 2020, the House of Representatives passed the Marijuana Opportunity Reinvestment and Expungement Act, which aimed to legalize cannabis by removing it from the Controlled Substances Act. It was the first time either chamber of Congress had voted to legalize recreational marijuana.

In the Senate, Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., has repeatedly reiterated his commitment to legalization. President Joe Biden, meanwhile, supports decriminalizing the practice federally, allowing states to determine their own marijuana laws.

Catholic Opposition

Catholics have been chief among those opposed to legalizing recreational marijuana, grounded in the Church’s moral teaching.

Within a section on “Respect for the Dignity of Persons,” the Catechism of the Catholic Church states that “the use of drugs inflicts very grave damage on human health and life. Their use, except on strictly therapeutic grounds, is a grave offense” (2291).

Pope Francis has also spoken on the subject.

“No to every type of drug use; it is as simple as that,” he told an international gathering of drug enforcement agencies in June 2014. The Holy Father added that even narrowly limited attempts “to legalize so-called ‘recreational drugs’ are not only highly questionable from a legislative standpoint, but they fail to produce the desired effects.”

Regarding marijuana, Catholic moral theology is generally opposed to recreational use on the grounds that the practice willfully impedes and alters the mind in order to experience a pleasant, artificially generated state of mind, disconnected from reality. This, explains Dominican Father Aquinas Guilbeau, undermines human freedom and dignity by impairing the capacity for moral reasoning.

“When ‘high,’ the marijuana user does not maintain a sufficient grasp on the real to accomplish acts of friendship and justice,” says Father Guilbeau, a moral theologian at the Dominican House of Studies in Washington, D.C. “He drifts instead into a kind of fantasy.”

Father Guilbeau distinguishes recreational marijuana usage from the casual consumption of alcohol, which he argues can be “governed by temperance” and also can help partakers engage more fully in reality.

“Whereas a glass of wine can enhance a fine meal, and scotch and a cigar can accompany deep philosophical discussion, marijuana” — because of the way the active ingredient, THC, interacts with the nervous system — “does not add to but distracts from both activities.”

While these dimensions of Catholic moral theology’s application to recreational pot are well-known, public policy advocates mostly stress a wide array of other concerns in their efforts to stop the practice’s legal expansion.

For instance, in Minnesota, the state Catholic conference opposed an attempt to legalize recreational marijuana not primarily by pointing to the moral dimensions of the individual user, but by emphasizing the potential impact on the common good and the vulnerable.

“A spirit of solidarity requires that we reject the wishes of a small segment of the population who may have the means to address the consequences of frequent marijuana use, and instead promote the common good,” said Ryan Hamilton, the Minnesota Catholic Conference’s associate director for public policy. “We don’t need another industry like Big Tobacco that preys on vice and targets youth, the poor, and those who bear the heavy cross of addiction.”

The MCC also rejects the line of argumentation that legalizing recreational marijuana is needed to end enforcement practices that disproportionately affect people of color, contributing to longstanding patterns of social and economic disadvantage. Hamilton says that avenues for reforming criminal justice for low-level drug offenses and even decriminalization can be pursued without “opening the door to a commercial cannabis industry.”

“Let’s promote real justice,” Hamilton says, “instead of propping up an industry that preys on youth, the poor, and persons of color, trapping them in cycles of addiction and poverty.”

Distance From Reality

The odds are stacked against those opposed to legalizing recreational marijuana. Significant shifts in American’s attitudes toward legalization are accompanying the ground the pro-legalization movement is gaining in the legal system.

As of late 2020, an all-time high of 68% of Americans support legalizing recreational pot. The rate has steadily increased every year since the late 1990s, when it hovered below 30%, as it had for decades.

Why the dramatic change in attitude?

Some suggest that greater levels of opposition to legalized recreational weed were simply linked to the fact that the practice was legal. But as social and legal stigma have declined, those who might have previously opposed legalization have less reason to do so.

John-Mark Miravalle, a theologian at Mount St. Mary’s Seminary, points to an underlying, more troubling explanation.

“We are getting progressively farther and farther from delighting in reality,” Miravalle said. “People are only finding delight in drugs and screens, which both, in different ways, distance us from reality.”

Miravalle, author of How to Feel Good and How Not To: Ethics of Using Marijuana, Alcohol, Antidepressants, and Other Mood-Altering Drugs, also says that there is a widespread mistaken association of pleasure with good, and pain with evil, which has contributed to an unhealthy relationship with mood-altering drugs across the board, and has also undermined people’s capacity to develop a discipline for pursuing reality-based joy.

Thus, the carefree vibe of casual marijuana usage may be masking something far more sinister.

“Although popular depictions of [marijuana-induced] incapacity can be humorous, they are in fact tragic,” said Father Guilbeau. “Wise rulers know that society cannot thrive when significant numbers of its members cannot fulfill the basics of justice.”

Je me demande juste.

What is really going on behind these vaccines? I do not think that the politicians are part of a plot to reduce the world population. It is perhaps a way of tagging the sheep v wolves. Stalin killed tens of millions simply because they were seen as the resistance. Perhaps this is what they really are doing in their mind. They are probably getting kickbacks from the vaccine manufacturers. How in all reality can the United States give away 500 million doses of the vaccine when in fact the population is just over 300 million?  That means they must have bought nearly 1 billion doses for what? Kickbacks? They sell this as their charity being a “donation” using other people’s money.

Career politicians are simply greedy corrupt people who love the power and endless money that flows into their pockets. This is why we cannot tolerate career politicians. Our real problem is their greed has gotten in the way of our health and their corrupt courts are ruling in their support. A federal judge has ruled that the Houston Hospital can force employees to be vaccinated. He is a total disgrace to what we pretend is the rule of law. I hope the employees quit and if I were in Houston, I would not allow any member of my family to go to that hospital. They are playing politics with the lives of patients and staff and should be shut down.

The world leaders are complicit in this entire scam for their greed has blinded them to the fact that this virus has more than a 99% survival rate. You have probably a greater risk of dying in a car crash. Macron said that Biden is “part of the club” at the G7. This is a very true statement for it reflects their dislike of Trump because he did not yield to their globalist agenda. This is really how they see themselves – the Demigods of the World.

Les cloches du Covid

Posted on by Gérard Maudrux

G7 Moving to Destroy Economy & Democracy- by Martin Armstrong

The G7 meeting +1 (EU) met in Cornwall in southwest England. The London Financial Times, which has openly come out and advocated the Great Reset, reported that “Joe Biden has won support at the G7 summit for a ‘carry on spending’ plan, as western leaders rejected austerity in a post-Covid world and vowed to tackle inequality at home and abroad. Biden’s call for continued economic stimulus was backed by fellow leaders at the summit, in a gathering framed by leaders as the moment the west starts a fightback against an ascendant China.”

On Friday evening, the G7 leaders and partners traveled to the Eden Project, a futuristic environmental park, to meet Queen Elizabeth and other members of the royal family. The Eden Project is a futuristic view of a Green planet that is billing as connecting us with each other and the living world and this is the future they envision. It is located in Cornwall, UK, which is WHY this G7 meeting was staged at this location. There are massive Biomes housing the largest rainforest in captivity.

They have stated that this is “the moment and support the economy” and Mario Draghi, former head of the European Central Bank who destroyed the bonk market by moving to negative interest rates in 2014 which failed, is now Italy’s prime minister, said that “there is a compelling case for expansionary fiscal policy.” They have destroyed the financial economy with artificially low interest rates which means they can no longer borrow endlessly. Consequently, they have adopted Modern Monetary Theory arguing that they can now simply print money endlessly and any inflation is purely temporary due to the shortages caused by COVID.

The Federal Reserve has joined the party with its own propaganda saying in April that it will continue its ultra-low interest rate policies and bond-buying program, a sign that it wants to see more evidence of a strengthening economic recovery before it considers easing its support. The Fed continues to call inflation is just short-term and they are saying they will not yet intervene.

The absolute nonsense coming from the G7 is really amazing. Boris Johnson had the guts to claim that it was vital the pandemic did not cause a “lasting scar” of inequality claiming that the last big economic recession of 2008 saw a recovery that was not “uniform across all parts of society.” This is just such propaganda all intent upon ushering a new system of totalitarianism under the pretense of “equality” and fairness. Video Player00:0001:18

Their greatest fear is “populism” and they all keep trying so hard to stab Trump as if this were the assassination of Julius Caesar when the senators stabbed Caesar 23 times also claiming they were defending the Republic which was hopelessly corrupt and controlled by an oligarchy as we see once again today. That claimed that after four years of Donald Trump’s presidency, the G7 was suppressed in the division and now they are in harmony to change the world for the Great Reset. Boris Johnson even stabbed former Conservative Prime Minister David Cameron’s policies of austerity calling them “a mistake.” The G7 thus concluded that they will commit to higher spending to “help” the developing world from a crisis they themselves have orchestrated. Of course, the G7 has also committed to funding for climate change.

This was all about justifying spending with artificially low-interest rates to create EQUALITY which is seriously calling into question that this all leads to only one place – totalitarianism.
